& Sovereignty

Ethics for Building Sustainable Ecosexual Community

Our frame for creating ecosexual communion is well defined here: "Our 5 EcoSomatic Zones: ReSelfing as Gaiac Bodies"

It is our intention to co-create 5 days of sustainable pleasure-based ecosexual community with you once a year at Mt. Baker Farm. Co-creating new social norms, and learning new ways of being, require the establishment of group agreements. We acknowledge that this is a grand social experiment. We acknowledge that this text is a living document and, like our social experiment, is an imperfect and ever evolving process. Learning new social norms requires repetition and redundancy. EcoSex: Celebrating Lover Earth's form of EcoSexual culture asks us to dismantle identities and privileges based on the “power over” processes and social hierarchies we were born into. Only by persistently embodying our foundational values in our behaviors will we be able to have the ecosexual culture we dream of. We are building a “consent-centric” and “power-with” culture. This can also be understood by using the phrase Interdependence and Sovereignty as our new frame.

We are a group of self-identified Ecosexuals gathering to participate in activities which affirm the sacredness of our lover, the Earth, and our place in the interconnected Web of Life. For us, an Ecosexual philosophy is essentially Animist. We wish to acknowledge the many conscious non-human entities with whom we co-exist. We celebrate our bodies and all bodies as manifestations of the Divine. We honor the Ancestors who have paved the path behind us and pledge ourselves to the creation of a living heritage for our descendants.

The culture that we are co-creating in order to live into a sustainable future is centered around the following foundational values and agreements:

  • BODY SOVEREIGNTY: a belief that all beings have sovereignty over their own body and are responsible for the actions that body takes;

  • BALANCE: we seek balance between interdependence and autonomy through constellational thinking and relational behavior

  • EARTH SOVEREIGNTY: We honor and respect the needs of the Land, for our lives depend on it;

  • LOVE: a commitment to embodying Love as a guiding value (defined on pg. _) , we hold the intention of interacting “in Perfect Love and Perfect Trust”;

  • CONSENT: We believe in enthusiastic pleasure based agreements between mutually sovereign beings/bodies,(defined here);

  • PEACE & NONVIOLENCE: We seek Peaceful relationships between all beings. We will interrupt violent behaviors if and when they occur;

  • EQUALITY & RECIPROCITY: a belief in equal partnerships and equitable resource sharing between people of all genders, races, ethnicities, classes and abilities;

  • GRATITUDE: We acknowledge the worth and work of all beings;

  • CURIOSITY & OPENNESS: We accept our desires and limitations and value positions of non-judgement;

  • MYSTERY: We understand that our individual awareness is limited and value holding space for the unknown;

Social/Sexual Etiquette Guidelines
Self Expression and Exploration
  • Adopt an attitude that is Curious, Open, Accepting, and Loving*: Be Curious about your own responses, desires, experiences and those of others; Be Open to trying new things; Be Accepting of your own judgements, limitations, previously negotiated agreements and those of others; Be Loving toward your own body and other people’s bodies. *the acronym COAL is from Mindsight and other works by Dan Siegel

  • We consider the entire body sacred and holy, and we also respect and honor the boundaries many of us have as survivors of sexual abuse and trauma. We welcome partial nudity throughout the main camp. Please keep genitalia covered throughout the main camp at all times.

  • A 20-acre section of the forest is dedicated as “Lilith’s Forest” and will be open to full expression and exploration of one’s (negotiated and consensual) erotic and wild nature. Full nudity is welcome in “Lilith’s Forest.”

  • EcoSex aims to facilitate the merging of the natural ordinary self with the soul of the Earth. We will experiment with ecstatic states created by dance, trance, ritual, signing, breathing, and meditation. Consent must be obtained before entering any altered or trance state.

  • Respect yourself, one another, and the Earth.

  • Respect your own sexual sovereignty. No one owns your body but you. No one else can decide what is right for you sexually. You are responsible for verbally expressing your boundaries and desires.

  • Use explicit verbal communication to obtain consent for any intimate touch, unless you have previous established agreements with the other party. A clear request must be met by a verbal response of “yes” before physical touch occurs. No means no. Yes means yes.

  • Respect your healing process and that of others. When love abounds, so does the opportunity for healing. Help each other to become whole.

  • Follow the principles outlined in the Land Ethic.

  • Maintain clean hygiene, particularly when entering into intimate contexts with others.

  • Honor the Safer Braver Space Policy

  • EcoSex does not condone the use of alcohol or illegal substances during the event. Medical marijuana is permitted only in private or designated smoking spaces. In honoring our sovereignty and interdependence, we acknowledge that consent requires both competency and presence, which can be made more difficult by altered states. Responsible and respectful behavior is central to ecosexual ethics, self care and community. The Guardian Team will evaluate how best to respond to any violations of this policy.

  • Please express negotiated and consensual touch intended to arouse in private spaces such as personal tents and sleeping areas or in designated spaces such as Lilith’s Forest or the clearly Temple Spaces after attending our opening ceremonies and our required consent training workshop.

  • Keep masturbation in private spaces or in Lilith’s Forest. Do not expose your genitals or rub up against anyone without getting explicit verbal consent. Substantiated occurrence of behavior contrary to this will result in the person being escorted from the event without refund.

  • Communicate in a timely manner what you know about your sexual health status to potential and actual intimate partners; ask in a timely manner for the sexual health information of potential and actual intimate partners. We ask that you disclose all known sexually transmitted infections (STI’s), before exposing others to them.

  • Photographs and video are only to be taken by those who are officially designated as staff photographers. Photography waivers will be available at on-site registration. We may ask you to leave your phones in your tent or vehicle to protect other’s privacy

  • More detailed guidelines for the accepted etiquette within different parts of the campground will be shared at registration, and during our required consent training.
